Tackling Child Healthy Weight Together in D&G

In 2023, Scottish Government invited proposals from all NHS Boards, in collaboration with local partners, for
additional funding to build local capacity and strengthen support around childhood obesity prevention in the early years. Dumfries and Galloway was successful with its application ‘To develop and implement a system based approach in Dumfries and Galloway (D&G) to improve diet and healthy weight outcomes for children in their early years.’
Cavill Associates Ltd was commissioned to facilitate this process with a series of stakeholder workshops based around system mapping. This report summarises the approach taken, and presents the final system map that was used to develop a comprehensive action plan.

Three workshops were held with key stakeholders. The main task from the first workshops was to produce a basic systems map of the influences on healthy weight in young people, and explore how these issues might be connected.

The second workshop reviewed the system map; added links and made more connections and discussed actions. The final workshop prioritised actions and discussed where those actions could be most effective.

The report is available from the link below, along with an interactive presentation where the links between influences and actions are shown.
