Through this theme we want to tackle the climate and nature emergency by encouraging and supporting sustainable food production and farming. We also want to see an end to food waste.
What's the Plan?
Further developed support networks for farmers and growers, enabling a transition to sustainable and regenerative farming
Continue to support the South West Scotland Regenerative Farming network - especially engaging those farmers not already on the regenerative and sustainable farming journey.
Food Resilience: opportunities for innovation in food production to reflect climate, consumption and demand choices
Map key products sourced from outwith the region and where innovation could help catalyse new businesses.
Further develop the 'Share an Acre' model to encourage increased production of vegetables.
What's already happening?
The South West Scotland Regenerative Farming Network is an award winning, farmer to farmer knowledge sharing group organised by Propagate's Abi Mordin.
The Network has over 200 members across D&G and into Ayrshire. The Network offers a resource directory, regular farm walks, a Soil Health Group for next level learning, and lots more.
The Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere have a dedicated Land Use and Biodiversity team. They support sustainability in agriculture and want to provide a platform in which to amplify the voices of the farming community.
National Farmers Union Scotland offers support to farmers in the region through the Regional Manager Mhairi Dawson, who organises membership activities and collaborative projects with Propagate and the Biosphere.
